Robbie Savage doesn’t think Mesut Ozil should be in the Arsenal starting XI.

Proving once again to be one of the most unpopular players around, Mesut Ozil apparently no longer warrants a place in Arsenal’s starting line-up.

That’s according to Robbie Savage, who, in fairness to him, has pointed to Ozil’s lack of form and not his lack of effort or defensive nous as his reason.

“Even if he was fit, I don’t think he warrants a place in this Arsenal side,” he told BT Sport (via The Metro).

“You look at Lacazette, you look at Sanchez, Iwobi is in – I don’t think he’d get in – on current form.

“Ozil, I don’t think he gets into this side even if he’s 100% fit.”

In a direct competition between Alex Iwobi and Mesut Ozil, Ozil is always going to win.

That’s not to say Iwobi isn’t talented, but one decent game against Brighton is hardly enough to start leaving Ozil out of the team.

Ozil hasn’t been at his best this season, but had a very good game against Bournemouth – the last match he was actually fit for.

Since then, he’s struggled with a knee injury, but is expected to available again after the international break.

Arsenal’s success without him has led to some believing that we don’t need him as much as we think we do.

Yet, he is one of the best players in the squad and unless he’s really stinking up the place, there’s no reason to leave him out of startling line-ups.
