Real Madrid are reported to have Arsenal and Chile forward Alexis Sanchez on a shortlist of three superstar signings, with the club president desperate for a goalscoring arrival to inject life into the side after a slow start.

Alexis could end up joining the Spanish and European champions in January or in the summer. That’s according to Don Balon, who claim that Florentino Perez is eager to fix Real Madrid’s inconsistent form early into the new season by signing a new superstar player.

On his shortlist is Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and, of course, Alexis Sanchez. Don Balon add that the trio could replace Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

You can be forgiven for thinking that replacing a 32-year-old, 29-year-old and 28-year-old with a 30-year-old and two 28-year old players isn’t the most well-thought out plan, especially when Perez is apparently worried that Ronaldo’s career isn’t going to last forever.

It’s not the first, nor will it be the last, time Alexis has been linked with Madrid. A move to Spain, or any other country not named England, would be beneficial to Arsenal, in that Alexis would not be joining a rival club.

However, there is strong domestic interest in Alexis as well, and he’ll be able to pick his next destination when his contract expires in the summer.
