Player Ratings: Özil shines in dominant win over Everton

Arsenal put in a quality attacking performance against Everton at Goodison, with almost all of their attacking players involved in one or two of the goals.

So how did the players do individually?

Defence

Petr Čech – 5

Looked shaky early on, almost giving the ball away in his own box right after conceding to Wayne Rooney’s long-range effort. Generally didn’t make too many mistakes throughout the match until he tried to take on an attacker at the end and conceded as a result. You can’t be making the same mistake twice at a team like Arsenal so I’m going to be harsh on him for that.

Laurent Koscielny – 7

Committed a dangerous challenge late on when there was no need to do so. He wasn’t at fault for the goals, and he was generally good overall, but taking risks like that isn’t a good idea.

Per Mertesacker – 8

He could’ve scored from one corner, and was probably Arsenal’s most solid defender on the day. Nothing he could really have done about either goal, and other than that he did well.

Nacho Monreal – 7

Came up with the goal in the first-half at a key time, but then a poor back-pass took the shine off his performance. He would easily have earned an eight otherwise but he can’t fall asleep like that.

Next, midfield

Midfield

Hector Bellerín – 8

Had a couple of chances going forward in the first-half and didn’t make too many mistakes at the back either. A cross to Alexis was the highlight.

Sead Kolašinac – 7

Sead was beaten a couple of times by the Everton wingers but was generally solid.

Aaron Ramsey – 8

Worked hard, although he should have done better with his early effort. Overall he linked up with his teammates well, but didn’t do anything particularly spectacular until late on, when he made a good run, brought the ball into his path from Wilshere’s pass and finished well for the Gunners’ fourth. He also assisted Alexis for the fifth.

Granit Xhaka – 6

Once again gave the ball away for a goal, although there was a hint of a foul in the challenge that dispossessed him. Redeemed himself a bit when his deflected shot fell to Monreal for the Gunners’ equaliser. Looked much better after Everton went down to 10 but it’s hard to give him too much credit for that.

Next, forwards

Forwards

Mesut Özil – 9

Looked back to his best in the first half, creating six chances before the break. Started the second well too, with a header to give the Gunners the lead. He then provided his first assist of the season, playing in Lacazette to give the Gunners a two goal lead. Only downside was that he didn’t get to keep tearing Everton apart for the full 90 minutes. He still managed to create eight chances, more than any player in the Premier League this season.

Alexis Sanchez – 8

Didn’t look great in the first half, giving the ball away a couple of times, but improved at the start of the second and put in a lovely ball for Mesut Özil to finish. He then played another good forward pass for Mesut to assist Lacazette for the third goal. Overall it was a very good second half, and he finally got his first Premier League goal at the end.

Alexandre Lacazette – 8

Finally managed to get his first away goal of the season, and was lively throughout. Unlucky not to score earlier with a well-saved left footed shot. When he did get his chance, he took it well, and gave Özil the assist. Of course, he was also substituted early.

Next, subs

Substitutes

Wilshere – 8

Looked lively and assisted Aaron Ramsey for the fourth goal of the game.

Francis Coquelin – 7

Didn’t have much to do but didn’t make any mistakes.
