Mesut Ozil is being linked with a January move to Atletico Madrid.

Ozil is out of contract in the summer and therefore could be sold in January to ensure that Arsenal get some money from his departure.

According to Merca Futbol, Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs who could attempt to sign the German in January.

They report that the Spanish side could make a bid of £17.7m as they know that Arsenal would not be able to demand much more than that, given Ozil’s contract situation.

Atletico already have Spanish winger Vitolo and striker Diego Costa arriving in January, and would regard Ozil as the final piece of the jigsaw.

However, Ozil could wait until the summer before deciding his next destination, as he feels he’ll have more options to choose from.

Amongst the clubs linked with Ozil are Inter Milan and Manchester United.

Ozil worked under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and has a good relationship with the Portuguese manager.

Talks to renew his contract at Arsenal have stalled, and it’s looking increasingly likely that his future will be away from the club.

He’s currently getting over an inflamed knee and will be rested during the international break.
