Marc Overmars has denied rumours he could become the new Arsenal Director of Football, insisting that he’s happy where he is.

Last week, Arsène Wenger denied the stories that Overmars could be returning to the club, but that didn’t stop them continuing to spread. As a result, the former Gunner himself has come out to deny that he’s planning to swap the Amsterdam Arena for the Emirates.

Overmars told NOS via Goal: “I’m happy at Ajax. There’s nothing happening with other clubs.” It’s not particularly surprising to me that Arsenal don’t seem to be looking for a Director of Football, considering Arsène Wenger has ruled out appointing one while he is still manager.

If Kroenke had made it a requirement of signing a new contract extension, I think we would have heard about it before now. Instead, these rumours surfaced with the season already underway and have duly been quashed.

The former Arsenal man won the Premier League and the FA Cup with the club back in 1998. But for now, Overmars’ appearances at the Emirates seem to be limited to the occasional “Legends” matches.

Marc appeared in Arsenal Legends vs Milan Glorie last year, and was consistently at the heart of proceedings as the Gunners won 4-2. It seems that’s the closest we’re getting to an Arsenal return.
