Horse racing legend Tony McCoy isn’t a fan of Mesut Ozil, it seems.

McCoy has revealed that he doesn’t think Ozil should be allowed anywhere near an Arsenal shirt ever again. Ouch.

“It’s been pretty disappointing, same old, same old. I’ve always been a fan of Arsene Wenger, I’d never say anything bad about him,” the 43-year-old said on the Only Balls and Horses podcast.

“The football’s pretty much the same. But we’ve got players there who are floating. Ozil is not worth feeding, never mind paying a contract. He doesn’t look like he wants to be there. I wouldn’t let him anywhere near an Arsenal shirt.

“To be fair, against Watford on Saturday, I’d be a little bit embarrassed. They can say whatever they like about Troy Deeney but he was only telling the truth.

“Some people don’t like the truth but that’s the fact of the matter. They were too complacent, not aggressive enough for me, no intensity.”

McCoy is a life-long Gooner so you can understand why he feels so passionately about Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Watford on Saturday… and many of our performances in general over the last couple of seasons. However, it seems as if Ozil is once again being used as a scapegoat.

As McCoy even says himself, there are several players ‘floating’ about. Ozil’s not the only person letting the side down. If it was that obvious, surely the club would have gotten rid of him already or at least benched him? If taking just one player out of the equation was the solution, it would be pretty simple to solve.

At the moment there seems to be far more at work – or not as the case may be – than just one, two or even three players slacking. It’s the entire squad and getting to the bottom of why this is the case is crucial if we’re going to move forward.

Sadly, while the players obviously have to take a portion of the blame, I do think a lot of what we’re seeing now is the fall-out from Arsenal extending Arsene Wenger’s contract.
