Mesut Ozil has recorded the ninth-most key passes in Europe this season.

Out of Europe’s top five leagues, Ozil has recorded the ninth-most key passes… but his ‘body language’ suggests he’s lazy so let’s just ignore the facts.

The Germany international, who’s missed out on five matches through injury this term, has recorded an average of three key passes per game. That’s more than Cesc Fabregas, who’s managed 2.8, and Real Madrid’s Marcelo (also 2.8).

The 28-year-old is level with Manchester United playmaker, Henrikh Mkhitaryan. However, Ozil is uncharacteristically yet to record an assist, whereas the ex-Dortmund man has managed five in the Premier League alone. That might have something to do with Romelu Lukaku being unstoppable at the moment though.

David Silva puts through a decent 3.3 key passes per game but the winner is Neymar with an impressive 4.8.

It goes to show how important Ozil still is for Arsenal, even if people don’t think he does enough. He may not be racking up the assists just yet but that’s not through lack of trying, it’s because people aren’t putting his chances away.

The playmaker has less than a year left on his current contract with the Gunners, which means we could be losing this fantastic player for free next summer.
