Alexandre Lacazette thinks the French national side have the ingredients to go all the way in the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer.

Lacazette was speaking to Arsenal.com about the national side, first placing focus on their upcoming qualifiers.

“We have to qualify first before we start talking about Russia. I hope I will have a role in the team. For now I’m in the squad and I just hope to be one of those selected to play in a match and go as far as I can,” he said.

The 26-year-old believes in Les Blues and is confident , as he went on to say: We have a lot of young talented players as well as a group of very established players. That’s a great combination that could help us to go a long way in Russia.”

Lacazette isn’t wrong there, in my opinion at least. On paper, France have a very talented group of players performing well for their club sides. Kylian Mbappé has already become involved in the goals for PSG, Lacazette has four for the Gunners, Olivier Giroud has scored a couple in his limited appearances, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

And with the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Thomas Lemar and Ousmane Dembele for attacking options, there is so much depth in the France side. No wonder Lacazette is just hoping to try and get a chance to prove his worth to the team.

If he continues to perform well at club level, I’d expect that to improve his chances of being part of that squad that goes to Russia. And if he performs for France, then he should stay ahead of Olivier Giroud in the big games for Arsenal.

Lacazette has plenty of opportunities now, it’s just about taking them.
