Arsenal legend Martin Keown was rather impressed with Olivier Giroud following his superb goal for the Gunners on Thursday night.

Keown was full of praise for Giroud who scored his second Europa League goal of the campaign against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday.

“It is brilliant,” the former Arsenal defender said.

“We had to wait for it, but it was brilliant play from Jack Wilshere here. When he picks up the ball, three players around, think he’s got nowhere to go.

“Look at that, lovely bit of trickery and then again, a little one-two with Walcott. You think Giroud has got no chance of putting that away.”

The goal itself was stunning and probably worth the 85-minute snooze-fest wait.

As Keown said, it was also down to Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott but Giroud had to finish it.

The 31-year-old has proven that he can score overhead goals before with the France international even comparing the one he netted in Serbia to his scorpion kick against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day.

The match ended 1-0 to the Arsenal thanks to Giroud’s brilliance.

The big guy has struggled to find the back of the net lately and whether this is because he’s got one eye on the exit remains to be seen. He’s yet to make a Premier League start this term and although he chose to stay in north London this summer, if another club like Everton comes a-knocking in January, I can’t imagine he’ll say no this time.

Giroud’s goal against Red Star was only his second from open play in 13 appearances.
