Olivier Giroud says that choosing to stay at Arsenal was the right choice, rather than joining Everton this summer.
The French international recently scored his 100th goal for the Gunners, but hasn’t been given a particularly large number of starts this season, especially in the Premier League.
Therefore, the French media have been asking him whether he thinks he should have left Arsenal in the summer, especially considering the 2018 World Cup in Russia is around the corner.
However, Giroud told Canal): “I was very close to signing for another English club, Everton, but I made the best choice I think. (I’m) content to have remained, well in his head and in his sneakers,” reports Liverpool Echo.
After his key goal to secure the win over Leicester on the opening day of the Premier League, followed by his penalty to wrap up proceedings in Belarus, Arsenal fans have already seen a glimpse of how important Giroud could be again this season.
Alexandre Lacazette can’t score all the goals himself, and Alexis Sanchez is yet to open his account in the league – although he has scored one in the Europa League, like Giroud. Danny Welbeck was doing a good job stepping up to the task, but his injury record continues to be an issue.
Giroud can help them all out, as he has done so far, and it’s better that than Arsenal facing up against him at Goodison Park in a couple of weeks time.
