John Griffiths has selected his 20-person squad for the upcoming UEFA u17 qualifying round and four Arsenal girls have been selected.
First team squad player, Lauren James (16), who captained the England u17 team in one of their recent friendlies against the USA will be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
The gifted FA Youth Cup double-winning winger, and natural successor to Rachel Yankey, was on the first team bench last week at Manchester City.
She did not get on and therefore did not beat the FA WSL youngest-ever player record, but there is no doubt that she will be called for first-team action soon.
Central midfielder, Ava Kuyken, a development team regular, who got first team football during pre-season team is also in the squad. She has shown great composure on the ball and good passing skills so far.
Young playmaker, Lia Cataldo, another development team regular, is also in John Griffiths’ squad.
She is a gifted technical player who perfectly fits the position. She has the vision and ability to lead the team technically and just need to work on improving her decision making process.
That development will come with time but if it goes well, she could take over from Kim Little in the first team in four or five years.
Paige Bailey-Gale from the u16 RTC team has also been called up for the qualifiers.
England will travel to Latvia to play the hosts, Slovakia and Scotland. The top two teams will qualify for the Elite Round to be played in Spring 2018 with the finals to be played in Lithuania.
The team will also play the regular tri-nations friendly tournament against France and Germany in Salou near Barcelona in January.
They are expected to play those two teams again in February at a location yet to be decided.
