Kerrea Gilbert, who made 12 appearances for Arsenal over a period of five years, has been cleared of a rape charge by Bristol Crown Court.
The former Gunner was accused of attacking and raping a teenager after a night out in Bristol, according to the Daily Mail. However, he denied the charges, insisting that the sex had been consensual. The courts found in his favour on Thursday, and cleared him of all charges.
Gilbert’s friend, Nathan Doctrove, was also accused of rape in the same incident, but he was also cleared of wrongdoing.
Gilbert, now 30 years old, hasn’t played for a club since he left St Albans City in 2014, after spending half a year with the side, who are currently in the National League South.
Even that was a far cry from the start of his career with the Gunners, when he was playing alongside the likes of Thierry Henry back in 2006.
However, Gilbert’s career as a professional footballer never really managed to get going.
He was sent on four loans in five years with Arsenal, and was eventually released, before joining Yeovil Town after visa complications with Portland Timbers.
Aside from a couple of those loan spells while he was still with the Gunners, the right-back didn’t appear for any club in the Football League more than 15 times.
