Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher reckons that Olivier Giroud would have been an ideal signing for Everton as he’s one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.
Carragher revealed that he’s a huge fan of Giroud on Monday Night Football Extra this week. In fact, the pundit believes that the 31-year-old is massively underrated and that Everton should have snapped him up this summer.
“I think he is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League,” said the ex-Liverpool star.
“He scores goals and he gives you that presence. He was France’s number one striker at Euro 2016 and, given the quality that they have, that shows he is a really good player. He would have been a great signing for Everton.”
Everton were widely reported to be interested in Giroud over the summer and were even said to be willing to offer £20m for the striker after Romelu Lukaku went to Manchester United. However, the France international chose to stay in north London and the move never materialised.
This season, Giroud has been struggling for game time again. In fact, he’s yet to make a Premier League start. Therefore, he might put a little more consideration into moving now, especially as he has under two years left on his current contract with the Gunners.
There have been reports that the Toffees won’t be returning for Giroud in January and others saying they will. But it does seem like a match made in heaven. He’s a good striker most likely looking for regular football and they’re a team looking for a proven Premier League goalscorer.
