Andrey Arshavin is heading for divorce after just a year of marriage, according to reports in Russia.

Arshavin got married in September 2016, but according to Russian magazine Starhit she’s now planning to end the relationship, explaining (via The S*n): “Him cheating was only one of the reasons that pushed me to make such decision.

“Adult people do not fight. Adult people make decisions and leave. I did not leave him for someone else, this I would like to stress from the very beginning.”

Of course, any news coming via The S*n should be taken with a pinch of salt, but unless they’ve completely made up the quotes here, it seems that the rumours are true.

Arshavin is currently playing in the Kazakhstan Premier League, for Kairat. In fact, he’s been relatively successful on the pitch, considering he’s now 36 years old, scoring 20 and assisting 14 in his 66 appearances for the club.

That’s actually a slightly better ratio than he managed for the Gunners, since he scored 31 and assisted 38 in 133 for Arsenal during his time in North London. The forward never quite lived up to expectations, but generally is remembered fondly, in particular for his goal against Barcelona.

But it seems like the former Gunner isn’t having such a good time off the pitch, letting down his wife and three children as it appears he has done. Hopefully he can make amends and turn things round in his personal life, as his professional career is surely nearing an end at this stage.
