20-year-old Kieran Tierney, who was heavily linked with Arsenal earlier in the year, has signed a new six-year deal with Celtic.

At the start of the summer, Arsenal were one of a few clubs linked with the left-back, and Tierney described the interest as “flattering”, although he did go on to say he was happy at Celtic. He’s now proved as much by signing on with the club until 2023, according to the BBC.

Tierney has been very successful with the Scottish club already, winning two Scottish Premierships and one Scottish Cup.

He’s also picked up multiple individual awards, including the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award two years running, as well as the SFWA Young Player of the Year award, and making it into the PFA Scotland Team of the Year on both occasions. Not a bad record for his first two full seasons in the first team.

This deal is likely an attempt to fend of the interests of clubs like Arsenal, and to make sure Celtic get a good price for the defender if/when he does end up leaving in the next few seasons.

The announcement has come at a particularly good time considering Tierney scored the opening goal for the league leaders last week, and it seems for now both parties are happy to see Kieran stay on.

Arsenal will reportedly scout him again in Celtic’s upcoming Champions League match, along with Moussa Dembele.
