Arsenal are reportedly set to sign 17-year-old Ipswich midfielder, Tristan Nydam, in January.

Tristan Nydam has just 18 months left on his current contract with Ipswich, which has reportedly put Arsenal on red alert ahead of the January transfer window.

According to the Sun, the Gunners have been following the central midfielder while he was with the Tractor Boys’ youth squad. Now that he’s broken into the first team, Arsene Wenger is apparently willing to cough up £2m for the 17-year-old.

The England u19 international has made nine Championship appearances for Ispwich this term and has featured twice in the League Cup.

The Sun says that Arsenal could sign him and then loan him out.

If Arsenal do sign the teenager in January, it won’t come as a surprise if they don’t make any other additions to their squad. During this winter, the Gunners have a habit of either signing no one or simply adding to their reserves as Wenger doesn’t agree with the mid-season transfer window.

“The players who do not play or the players who are tapped up in October they already start again to think ‘where do I go in January?’,” Wenger said in September. “That’s not a way to be on board with a football club. I believe we have to realise that.

“We are here to entertain people and you can do that with people who are really on board together, to achieve something together and not every minute that it doesn’t go well to think ‘where can I go next?’

“I believe that we have to bring some decency. We all complain today that it has become too much a business, but we can do something about it. We have that responsibility in the game.

“You can’t have a player preparing for a vital football game and still be on the phone at 4 o’clock: ‘Do I go or not?’ or ‘How much is it?’, ‘Where do I go?’

“The ideal situation would be a have a transfer period that is closed 48 hours before the first game of the championship and to close it completely until the season after.”

This is why not many of us are holding out hope that the Frenchman will return to Monaco to sign Thomas Lemar before next summer, as it would be completely out of character.

If Arsenal do sign anyone in January, it looks like Nydam will be our guy.
