Arsenal are fighting several clubs for 16-year-old defender Iker San Vicente, according to reports.

The Osasuna teenager has yet to sign a long-term deal with the club and could be available on a free transfer in January.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal will battle it out with Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus for San Vicente’s signature.

San Vicente has been likened to Barcelona defender Gerard Pique due to his height and his ability to play the ball out of defence.

If he has even a shred of Pique’s ability, he might not be a bad player to sign for nothing.

Arsenal have signed a number of young Spanish players over the years. Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin, Fran Merida, Jon Toral, Ignasi Miquel and Julio Pleguezuelo all joined the club as teenagers, though only two of them went on to become Arsenal regulars.

Pique himself also left Spain as a teenager, joining Manchester United. He struggled to settle in England and returned to Barcelona, where he became one the world’s best defenders.

San Vicente has yet to make a first team appearance for Osasuna, who are currently playing in Spain’s second division from relegation from La Liga last season.
