Arsenal could face competition from Barcelona for Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, according to latest reports from Spain.

The midfielder has made a name for himself for FC Porto and is now a regular for the Portugal national team.

Arsenal were reported to be interested in him during the summer. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were also thought to be looking at him.

Now according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona had scouts at Portugal’s 2-0 win over Andorra to watch the defensive midfielder in action. The 26-year-old has earned 23 caps for Portugal after making the step-up to Porto.

He started his career with Estoril before moving to Parma in Italy. There, he spent several years on loan with the likes of Aris Saloniki and Roda JC before moving on a free transfer to Maritimo.

It was there that he got regular first-team action and impressed to the extent that Porto signed him in 2015. Normally a defensive midfielder, Danilo can also play as a central defender.

Arsenal may be looking to strengthen their depth in midfield and defence, the latter especially given their injury problems of late. Danilo would seem like a good fit, in my opinion.

However, Porto tend to be difficult to negotiate with and will likely demand a high price, especially if so many big clubs are interested in him.
