Atletico Madrid are reportedly close to completing a January deal for Lautaro Martinez, although Arsenal are also keen on the talented Argentinian.

According to reports in Argentina, Atletico Madrid have agreed a £10.75m deal to bring the 20-year-old to Spain. Arsenal are apparently interested in the forward, with talkSPORT claiming the Gunners are keeping tabs on him.

Martinez plays as a centre-forward for Racing Club in the Argentinian first division. He put together a good run of form towards the end of last season, scoring four and assisting one in his final eight appearances of the campaign.

Lautaro also has a very good record for the Argentinian youth teams, but obviously it’s almost impossible to get into the first-team at the moment, with Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Agüero just a few of the attacking options at their disposal.

The young striker has clearly made the best of his u20 opportunities, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in 11 games, including two goals in two at the recent u20 World Cup. It should be pointed out, however, that in one of those two games he was sent off against England.

I doubt Arsenal are in the market for a young striker, what with Alexandre Lacazette, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud taking up the first-team spots, while Eddie Nketiah, Stephy Mavididi, Chuba Akpom and Takuma Asano wait for their chance in the background. But we’ll have to wait and see.
