Alexis Sanchez sat out of Chile’s training session on Monday with a thigh injury.

The Chilean joined up with the national team following the 2-0 win over Brighton last Sunday. According to El Mercurio via the Metro, he reported in with a thigh injury and sat out training on Monday.

He is, however, expected to be fit for Chile‘s qualifiers against against Ecuador and Brazil. Chile are currently sixth in the South American World Cup qualifying group and require two wins from their remaining two games if they’re to stand any chance of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia 2018.

Their last international break was very damaging, as an unfit and distracted Alexis could do little to prevent a 3-0 defeat to Paraguay and a 1-0 defeat to Bolivia. Those results allowed Argentina and Peru to overtake them. Peru occupy the final automatic qualifying spot, while Argentina sit in the play-off spot.

Alexis should be fitter and sharper this time around, having returned to the Arsenal starting line-up. The 2-0 win over Brighton was his second 90 minutes in a week, having completed the game against West Brom that week as well.

Chile’s final qualifier is in Brazil next Tuesday, while Arsenal travel to Watford the following Saturday.
