Arsene Wenger believes that his team are not lacking in confidence when it comes to big games away from home.

Arsenal travel to Chelsea on Sunday in what is another big game away to a top six side.

Those words usually precede disaster for Arsenal. The 4-0 defeat to Liverpool last month was a continuation of a poor recent record away to teams from the top six of the Premier League.

Wenger, though, doesn’t believe the record will have any effect on his team’s confidence going into Sunday’s game.

“Do Arsenal lack confidence against the big teams? No,” Wenger said, as reported by The Daily Star.

“Look, if you look at my record you will see that I played two years in England, in the Premier League, without losing games away from home.

“Last year, until we lost at Everton, we had not lost away for the whole year.

“So after that, we lost at Man City after Everton, that’s true.

“It gave us a little bit of a problem of confidence away from home, but I don’t really believe in that.

“Never in my life could I accept or understand that it is different away from home.

“It’s just a question of how much you want it.

“No matter where you play, it’s about football and so it’s as well a good opportunity to show that we have that quality.”

He may not believe there’s much difference between home and away, but it’s a fact that Arsenal haven’t played well in these games in some time.

The last time Arsenal won away from home against a top six side in the Premier League was in January 2015, when we beat Manchester City 2-1.

When it comes to Chelsea, you have to go back to 2011 for the last time we beat them at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, it’s been five straight defeats. It’s hard to believe such a record wouldn’t be playing on the players’ mind.
