Arsène Wenger gave special praise to Mohamed Elneny and Nacho Monreal after the pair put in a fantastic performance in Monday night’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Monreal has been a regular in the Arsenal side all season, playing every league game, Europa League game and the Community Shield match. In fact, he was only rested for Doncaster Rovers, where he still made the squad anyway.

Elneny, on the other hand, hadn’t even played 90 minutes of league football before Monday night, but certainly stepped up to the task against West Brom. Wenger said of the duo: “They were outstanding, both of them,” reports the Express.

“I am pleased for both of them of course, but especially for Elneny because he has not always played, but what he did tonight was very positive. The two of them are top players who have a fantastic mentality.”

Monreal could have been forgiven for being tired against the Baggies, and Elneny for not being sharp, but both of them performed to more than their usual standard anyway.

Although Arsenal do have a very large squad, the Gunners will also have a lot of fixtures to play this season if they manage to continue progressing in the League Cup and stay at the top of their Europa League group.

I believe every player is likely to be called upon at some point, and if they all come in and perform as Elneny did then that won’t be a problem.
