Arsène Wenger claims that Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé “could be the next Pelé”, after the 18-year-old got his move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal were one of many clubs linked to the signature of Mbappé over the summer and Wenger made no secret of his interest in the player.

Speaking after the summer window closed and Mbappé joined his new club, Wenger told French TV show Telefoot via the Mirror: “Mbappé could be (the next) Pelé. There are no limits to how far he can go.”

Paris Saint-Germain clearly agree with this assessment, as they are reportedly ready to shell out £162m for the youngster next summer.

The current deal is only a loan, as PSG have to be careful with Financial Fair Play restrictions after signing Neymar for a world record fee as well this window.

Mbappé certainly impressed in his limited minutes for the French national team on deadline day, scoring in a 4-0 win over the Netherlands.

Neymar has already shown how important he can be for PSG. If Mbappé starts similarly well then the club from the French capital could be a dominant force in Europe this season.

Meanwhile, Wenger will be regretting not forcing the issue with the teenager last year, when the player was still a relative unknown.
