Arsène Wenger revealed defender Calum Chambers and Jack Wilshere will feature in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers.

There was some good news about Chambers and Wilshere after Wenger was asked about who could potentially feature this evening in the Carabao Cup. He responded: “Yes, (Chambers) will be involved against Doncaster. Jack Wilshere is involved too.”

Chambers played for the u23s against Leicester City last week while Jack Wilshere made a substitute appearance in the Europa League against FC Köln. However, both players played no part in the match at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

Both Chambers and Wilshere have been making a slow return to first-team action after their loans and subsequent injuries kept them out of the Arsenal side in 2017 and the start of this season. Neither of them have made a start for the Gunners since 2016. The match against Doncaster Rovers provides an opportunity for that to change, I feel.

Wenger also confirmed that the team would be a mix of reserve and first-team players, just as against Köln. Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson both got minutes that day, so I’d say the two of them are probably the closest of the youth players to a start.

The Arsenal manager answered questions at his pre-match press conference about Danny Welbeck after the English striker went off early against Chelsea. He said: “Danny had a scan (on Tuesday), we don’t know how bad his groin injury is but he will certainly be out until the international break. Coquelin as well. Debuchy is coming back slowly,” reports Arsenal.com.

It seems that Mesut Özil still hasn’t recovered from the problem that kept him out against Chelsea, as Wenger added: “Mesut is training again, but for (Wednesday) no [he will not feature]. He has a little inflammation of his knee.”
