Ivan Gazidis is considering returning to the United States to become the new MLS commissioner, according to reports.

Gazidis was part of the founding management team of the MLS in 1994, and became deputy commissioner of the league in 2001. Now The S*n are reporting that he’s considering a return to the league to become the MLS commissioner if current boss Don Garber steps down.

Now, most news you hear from The S*n should be taken with a pinch of salt in my experience, and from the looks of things this story is no different.

Back in May, the Telegraph posted an exclusive claiming that Gazidis was being lined up to take over as head of the MLS, when Don Garber’s contract expires. The S*n are now claiming the same thing.

At the time, the Telegraph wrote “Ivan Gazidis being lined up for MLS role if he loses Arsenal power struggle”, and now The S*n write that Gazidis is considering a return after he “looks to have lost power struggle”.

The Telegraph pointed out in May: Gazidis served under Garber as deputy commissioner for seven years before accepting his current job at Arsenal in 2008.

“Garber earns almost £4million-a-year, plus bonuses, as MLS commissioner which is significantly more than the £2.6m Gazidis was paid by Arsenal last year.

“There has been no announcement on whether or not Garber plans to stand down from his post at the end of his current contract, but Gazidis is thought to be in the running to replace him.”

Then The S*n have exactly the same three paragraphs in the same words, without any reference to the Telegraph’s article:

Essentially this seems to be a lazily rehashed and partially plagiarised article only updated to note that Gazidis didn’t win the ‘power struggle’ with Wenger, and is still considering the MLS role.

There’s not much more to it.
