Darren Ferguson has revealed that his father, Sir Alex, has been speaking with him ahead of Doncaster Rover’s trip to the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson is the son of former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, and has admitted that he’s been in contact with his old man ahead of Doncaster Rover’s League Cup clash against Fergie’s ex-adversary, Arsene Wenger.

“There is an enormous amount of respect between my dad and Arsene Wenger, a huge amount of respect,” the 45-year-old, who’s previously managed Peterborough and Preston North End, told Sky Sports (via Express).

“They get on very, very well. They were competitive both of them, so they had to have that competitive edge towards it when they were managing.

“But I’m looking forward to coming up against him, for me he’s a manager who is a fantastic challenge.

“He’s a great manager and obviously the aim is to get one over him, but we know it’s going to be difficult.

“Yeah (I’ve spoken to him), I speak to him at length, but obviously this game [SIC].

“He’s going to be there, my mother is going to be there and my family, so it’s good, good for everyone.

“It’s important that we go there and put on a performance.”

Before Fergie retired from United in 2013, the Red Devils and Arsenal were massive rivals. In fact, between the years of 1997 and 2004 B.C.*, they were the main teams consistently vying for the Premier League title.

While Wenger could give United a run for their money back in the day, Sir Alex Ferguson’s record against the Gunners, especially at Old Trafford, is undeniable.

Wenger lost 15 league games to Fergie and only won 10 (just three at Old Trafford); this doesn’t take into considering the two Champions League matches Arsenal lost to United, as well as the FA Cup defeats.

Whether Sir Alex’s tips help Darren or not, considering Donny’s dire form in League One this season, remains to be seen.
