Schalke could break their wage structure to keep Leon Goretzka at the club, with the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich reportedly keen on his signature.

The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has been attracting the interest of Arsenal and Bayern Munich. According to Kicker via talkSPORT, Schalke are willing to offer him a new contract that will make him the club’s top earner by some distance.

Arsenal were linked with Gortezka during the summer but Schalke resisted the pressure to sell him. There were reports that he had already agreed to join Bayern and would simply wait for his contract to expire in the summer.

Goretzka impressed during the Confederations Cup, scoring three times on the way to the final and helping Germany lift the trophy. Before then, he scored eight goals in 41 appearances in all competitions last season for Schalke.

He joined Schalke as a teenage from Bochum and quickly became regarded as one of the most exciting midfielders in Germany. He plays as a box-to-box midfielder and could be a good fit in Arsenal’s midfield, especially as a deputy for Aaron Ramsey, in my opinion.
