Real Madrid are reportedly considering selling Karim Benzema to Arsenal as the Gunners begin the hunt for Alexis Sanchez’s replacement.

According to Spanish outlet, Don Balon, Real Madrid could consider selling Benzema to Arsenal for £44m as the Gunners will be pretty keen to replace Alexis come next summer.

The Chilean has under a year left on his current deal in north London and it’s looking pretty certain that the 28-year-old would rather eat his own foot than stay at Arsenal longer than he has to. The forward seems pretty set on signing for Manchester City, if the rumours at the end of the transfer window are anything to go by.

Meanwhile, Benzema, who’s only a year older than Alexis, has been linked with a move to Arsene Wenger’s side since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Or at least since around 2011, just before Robin van Persie left.

He’s out of favour at Real and has under two years left on his current deal. Don Balon’s report also claims that Los Blancos could attempt to tie him down to a new contract in order to get a higher transfer fee. However, the gunners are apparently unwilling to spend beyond £44m.

The Frenchman only made 23 La Liga starts last term and 29 appearances in total. He scored 19 goals over all competitions.

Could this finally be the time Wenger makes a move for a player he’s been linked with for over six years?
