FIFA18 has rated Petr Cech as the eighth best keeper in the world.

EA Sports have run the rule over the world’s keepers and have determined that there are only seven goalkeepers better than Petr Cech at the moment.

According to a list published in the Daily Star, Manuel Neuer is the highest rated, followed by David De Gea, Gianluigi Buffon, Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris, Jan Oblak and Samir Handanovic.

On the surface, at least, Cech’s position looks fair.

Neuer and Buffon have been considered to be top keepers for years now, while few will argue against the quality shown by De Gea, Lloris and Courtois since they’ve come into the Premier League.

Oblak, meanwhile, has been excellent in a very defensively strong Atletico team, while Handanovic, perhaps not as well known, has been very good for Udinese and Inter Milan in Serie A.

Below Cech in the rankings are Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas.

Madrid’s former keeper, Iker Casillas, is languishing down in 18th having declined significantly since joining Porto. Cech, who is from the same era as Casillas, has certainly proven he’s able to sustain a high level for longer, even if he is not as good as he used to be.
