Reiss Nelson was ‘buzzing’ after being handed his first team debut against Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Ever since his impressive pre-season with the senior squad, Arsenal fans have eagerly been waiting for Nelson to be given his first start – and so has he.

While the 17-year-old has already made five Premier League 2 appearances for the reserves this season, scoring six goals in the process, and played seven minutes against FC Koln in the Europa League last Thursday, this was his first senior start.

Although the winger, who was played as a right wing-back on the night, didn’t have the most exciting of games, he’s so young that no one really seemed to care that much. Plus, apart from the likes of Jack Wilshere in the first half, no one played amazingly.

There’s plenty of room for the England youth international to improve and the lad was so happy to just make his first start that it’s unlikely that this will have a negative impact on his immediate future. I’m sure we’ll see plenty more from him this term.

Arsenal narrowly won 1-0 against Donny thanks to a Theo Walcott goal and face Norwich City at the Emirates in the next round.
