Shkodran Mustafi says that Arsenal need to try and build on the performance at Stamford Bridge, after such a positive and organised showing from the Gunners.

Mustafi was speaking to Arsenal.com after the Gunners drew with Chelsea on Sunday and was asked about the positives that the team could take from the draw. The German international responded: “We are a team that are willing to learn.

“I think that we have to try and build from something and I think we can build from this performance today because we were really well organised when we didn’t have the ball.

“When we had the ball, we played some brilliant one-touch football. I think we can build from this. We played today against the champions of last season and if you play like this, I think you’ll get a lot of points.”

The team have certainly had a lot of experiences to learn from this year, I believe. Defeats against Bayern Munich, Liverpool and the disappointing night at Crystal Palace all gave the team an opportunity to reflect on what went wrong and focus on improving themselves.

Most of the time, it didn’t seem such reflection actually happened, but at Stamford Bridge on Sunday there were finally some improvements, in my opinion. Of course, this will only make a difference over the course of the season if the team continues to build on it as Shkodran says.

But having something to build on is a start. The Gunners now go into a relatively easier period of games, with the next match against one of last season’s top-six not until every Arsenal fan’s favourite month, November.

Hopefully by then the Gunners will be in an even better position on the pitch and in the table as well.
