Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle with Monaco for Thomas Lemar, and it doesn’t depend on Alexis Sanchez being sold to City, according to a report.

The Daily Star are reporting the news that Arsenal are confident of repeating their deadline day bid with the same level of success, except this time with a deal with Thomas Lemar is already agreed and ready to go. According to the Star, time constraints were the main thing holding the deal back on August 31st.

Arsenal are reportedly offering a five-year deal worth £250,000 a week to the 21-year-old, whether Alexis stays or goes in January. The paper aren’t the most reliable source for Arsenal news, but if true then fans have plenty of reason to get excited about the move.

Thomas Lemar has consistently shown his ability over the past year or so, as emphasised by his double for France on deadline day. Lemar was part of an impressive Monaco side that beat Paris Saint-Germain to the title in 2016/17, and is one of very few of their star players who stayed on for the current campaign.

With Mbappé also departing on deadline day, it wouldn’t be too ridiculous to expect Lemar to start to question the French club’s ambition, and why he is the only one sticking around.

If Arsenal can get themselves in a good position on the pitch by January, they’ll have a better opportunity to try and get a deal over the line.
