Julian Draxler told his Germany teammates that he was holding out for a move to Barcelona this summer, according to reports.

Arsenal were linked with the German once again this window, but according to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Draxler was hoping that Neymar’s departure and Barcelona’s failed Coutinho bids might open the door for him to join the Spanish giants.

Draxler has had a pretty unsettled career so far. After spending his youth career at Schalke, it started to emerge that he was drawing interest from top clubs including Arsenal in 2013/14. Julian stayed put at first, but then moved to Wolfburg in the summer of 2015.

Just a year later in 2016, the German announced that he wanted to leave again, Arsenal were linked once more, but the player stayed put again. He was roundly booed by supporters for trying to force his way out and eventually the club decided they had to sell him to PSG in January 2017.

Now, less than a year on from his last move, the Arsenal links are back.

At this point, the Gunners have had plenty of chances to sign him, and Draxler has generally stayed put until someone else made a move, so whether Arsenal have ever even been in for him is questionable.

If Mundo Deportivo are right, the player doesn’t want to join Arsenal anyway. No doubt the rumours will re-surface in January, especially if Draxler finds his place at PSG taken by Mbappé and Neymar, but until then we should really take a break for a little while.
