Ian Wright has hit out at Arsenal fans after a recent comment of his hit a nerve.

Wright posted a tweet on Friday saying that he would always love Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It’s unclear whether this was in response to the 24-year-old’s poor showing against Leicester in the League Cup on Tuesday, whether he’d recently hung around with him and was joking around, or another reason entirely. However, Arsenal fans didn’t take too kindly to the Gunners legend praising a player they now see as the enemy.

The backlash resulted in the opinionated ex-striker hitting out Gooners, which isn’t exactly out of character for Wrighty.

The Ox left Arsenal for Liverpool on Transfer Deadline Day for a reported £35m, which is reportedly set to rise to £40m with add-ons.

The England international had under a year left on his deal at Arsenal and he publicly claimed he just wanted an opportunity to play in his favoured central midfield role. Privately, I imagine he probably lacked faith in Wenger.

However, it was the manner of the move that irked Gooners. Wenger took a chance on him by spending £15m on a 17-year-old back in 2011. That same 17-year-old would go on to spend over 500 days sidelined but still the club stood by him and it seems to be this ingratitude, combined with his display against his soon-to-be new club on 27 August, that’s made fans so angry.
