Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has been appointed to UEFA’s executive committee.

Gazidis has joined to represent the European Club Association in the committee, according to the Evening Standard. The other representative from the English game is former Manchester United CEO David Gill.

The European Club Association is an independent body set up to represent football clubs at European level. The aim of the ECA is to safeguard and promote the interests of the clubs on football matters.

The appointment of Gazidis to UEFA’s executive committee is an example of the ECA trying to make this happen, by having a representative of their club association present for any major decisions.

The Standard claim that recent topics for discussion for the ECA were the length of the transfer window, the future of Financial Fair Play rules and the future of Europe’s club competitions between 2021-24.

Gazidis isn’t the most popular figure at Arsenal at the moment, as news emerged of the email he sent out to employees about the transfer window, calling it a “success” despite fans feeling the exact opposite.

However, it can’t hurt to have someone at the club representing our interests on the European stage, so largely I feel this appointment is good thing.
