News has emerged that Ivan Gazidis sent an email around to Arsenal staff and players on Friday morning, claiming to be happy with the Gunners’ transfer activity, and Gooners aren’t too happy.
According to the Daily Star, Gazidis is convinced that Arsenal’s 4-0 thumping at Anfield has put a negative spin on the Gunners’ transfer activity this summer and overall the chief executive is happy with the club’s signings.
“At the end of the window, reviewing all activity, we have once again improved the quality and depth of our squad,” he said.
Later insisting, “Everything is coloured by results…a positive performance at Liverpool would have coloured this transfer window very differently.
“We have had a poor start to the season but have the quality to turn it around and turn around performances and compete for the title. It is time to get back to what it is all about, the football.
“The manager and players know that the performance at Anfield was not good enough and they will be focused to put that right after the international break.”
“Gazidis also claims keeping Sanchez and Mesut Ozil – who are both in the final year of their contracts – was “a clear statement of our ambitions and should help refute suggestions we are just about the money. That is simply nonsense.”
Gazidis also mentions the fact that Arsenal have managed to keep Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil is a sign of ambition, despite the club almost selling the Chilean to Manchester City for £60m on the final day of the window, forcing the Gunners to bid £92m for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
Arsenal clearly signed Alexandre Lacazette to appease the fans at the beginning of the window and Sead Kolasinac seems to be a good addition. However, after that, all the club did was sell off the deadwood and even then they couldn’t get that right since Jack Wilshere is still at the club, Carl Jenkinson is just out on loan and Wojciech Szczesny got sold to Juventus.
While some Gooners agree that the Liverpool result has tainted our view of the transfer window, others are sick to the back teeth of Arsenal constantly having to put a positive spin on everything.
