Arsenal have once again been linked with Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and fans aren’t having any of it.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to return for Sterling in January as Arsenal eye the 22-year-old winger as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

This, however, doesn’t make sense as Pep Guardiola has admitted that while the Gunners did want the England winger and even enquired about him in the summer as part of a swap deal for the Chilean, he said no way.

City only signed Sterling from Liverpool for a rumoured £49m (£44m + £5m add-ons) two years ago. Why would they sell now?

“It’s simple, when we spoke with Arsenal in the last days, they wanted to make a swap with Raz [Sterling],” Guardiola said in September.

“They talked to me and I said no chance. Zero chance. Not one percent chance. He’s 22, an English player, a lot to improve.

“We only made an offer with cash, they accepted but [we] couldn’t sign their player.”

Why would Arsenal make another approach six months later for a player they’ve been told City don’t want to sell? Especially when City are probably going to get Alexis on a free next year.

City fans aren’t having any of it. Some of them truly believe the reports that Wenger’s going to return for Sterling, who’s made four Premiership appearances and scored three goals this season, and have resorted to making digs at the Frenchman and his club. While others appear to recognise that the reports make very little sense considering what Pep’s said.
