Arsenal should start Welsh box-to-box midfielder Aaron Ramsey in the team every week, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, after his fine performance against West Brom on Monday.

The Gunners have a number of different central midfield options at present, with Jack Wilshere finally returning to the fray and Mohamed Elneny performing so well against West Brom. Granit Xhaka isn’t on form right now. That’s all before even mentioning the injured Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla.

However, Carragher thinks that despite all of those options, Ramsey should always be starting for the Gunners, as he told Sky Sports: “Aaron Ramsey should always get in that Arsenal team because he’s one of their best players,” reports the Metro.

“He’s scored two winners in cup finals. He just wants to run, he wants to get in the box. Half the time you look at the manager and say if you’ve got a player like Ramsey, where do you fit him into your team? (Wenger’s) played him in (an advanced) role tonight but going forward he’s got (Mesut) Ozil, he’s got (Alexis) Sanchez. How do you get them all in?”

In my opinion, Ramsey is unlikely to get many more games in the forward roles like he did against West Brom. I feel Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez are likely to be regulars in the side this season, which could mean the Welshman is continually deployed as one of two deep-lying midfielders.

Unless Arsene Wenger changes formation any time soon, I think the midfield two looks to be the only way Ramsey gets into the team. I believe he showed he can perform well there against Chelsea, but it’s just about him being disciplined enough not to abandon Granit Xhaka as he against Stoke City and Liverpool.
