Bob Wilson says he’s upset that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has left the club for Liverpool and doesn’t think the move is good for Arsenal or the player.

Speaking on BBC Five Live, Bob Wilson believes both parties may struggle after the move. He said, via the Express: “I’m particularly upset about Alex. I like Alex a lot.

“He knows how many times after a game I’ve gone up to him after he’s played really well and told him ‘Alex, don’t you ever forget how good you could be’

“(I’m a) huge fan of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. This is a terrific blow to Arsenal, but I’m not sure it’s good for Alex himself.”

It certainly seems like a blow to the Arsenal staff and people around the club that they invested so much time and support in making the Ox the best he could be, only to watch him leave for another club.

Arsène Wenger said last week that Chamberlain had a “responsibility” as the future of Arsenal and England. Like Wilson, he will presumably feel let down that the player has decided to leave.

The money that Arsenal got in return is good – £40m+£10m – very good for a player in the last year of his deal. So from that point of view it isn’t so much of a blow to lose him. But in terms of losing the player he could be, which is presumably what Bob Wilson is referring to, it could end up being devastating.

For Oxlade-Chamberlain, whether the move ends up being positive may largely depend on where he’s played on the pitch. It seems that he left the Gunners so he could play in central midfield. If that ends up happening, he may see it as worthwhile move.

If it doesn’t, then perhaps he won’t.
