Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio has confirmed he does have a release clause, but says that he’s happy at the Santiago Bernabeu and doesn’t plan to leave.

According to the rumours from the last couple of months, the Real Madrid man has a £72m release clause. As a result, some publications made the fairly improbable claim that Arsenal would trigger it in an attempt to bring the Spaniard to North London.

When asked about the clause and the possibility of leaving, Asensio told Cadena Cope via talkSPORT: “Yes it’s true I have a release clause here, but no I don’t think I will be leaving.

“I believe I have been playing very well and this has been replicated by the fans and the club who have shown me a lot of love. I would not join Paris Saint-Germain, I am happy where I am.”

Real Madrid have reportedly been keen to sign Asensio up to a new deal to either increase or scrap the current release clause, especially after the good performances the Spanish u21 international has been putting in recently.

However, for the moment, it seems that they don’t have much to worry about anyway. For a 21-year-old, playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world, winning the biggest trophies and having a regular place in the team is pretty much the most you can ask for.

Arsenal would struggle to offer Asensio all three of those things, let alone meeting his release clause, particularly as the Gunners are currently not in the Champions League.

But if something happened to unsettle the youngster and the release clause remained in place, then I guess it would be worth a shot.
