Arsenal are set to face Doncaster in the Carabao Cup tonight, and Rovers manager Darren Ferguson revealed Arsene Wenger is sorting tickets for his father Sir Alex Ferguson.

Darren Ferguson squares off against Arsenal when his Doncaster Rovers side travel to the Emirates Stadium in the third round of the Carabao Cup tonight. He will have the chance to take on Arsene Wenger as his father did so many times.

Ferguson jr revealed to the Guardian that despite the spat between the ex-Manchester United boss and Wenger, the pair are on respectful terms. “I don’t know (Wenger), but my dad knows him very well, and gets on with him very well.

“I know they had their sort of spat but they actually get on really well. They have a hell of a lot of respect for each other. In fact Arsène is sorting out the tickets for my father for Wednesday, so there you go.”

Ferguson seemed to be excited about the opportunity to take Wenger’s team on, saying: “Coming up against the manager is a great experience for me. He is a great manager and has had a fantastic career. I’m looking forward to coming up against him because its something I’ve never experienced.”

Clearly Wenger and Sir Alex have put all their managerial rivalries behind them in the years since Ferguson’s retirement, although I’m sure Sir Alex will be rooting against Wenger in Wednesday’s game given the family connection.

Darren Ferguson actually won the Premier League under his father’s managerial reign back in 1992/93, so he’s tasted success at the very top before. The Scot will be hoping to add a win against Arsenal to his managerial CV, after helping Doncaster Rovers to promotion from League Two in 2016/17.

Meanwhile, it would be better for the Arsenal boss to see a comfortable win for the Gunners, rather than reigniting the Wenger-Ferguson rivalry of old. We’ll have to wait and see which way it ends up going.
