Bayern Munich full-back Rafinha has revealed he rejected offers from England and Spain last summer.

The Brazilian full back was linked with a move away from Bayern, but has recently said that he decided to stay in Germany. “Bayern’s bosses know I already had offers from England and Spain before the season started,” Rafinha told Sport Bild via talkSPORT.

“I have Bayern in my heart and I always give 100 per cent, they can always count on me. Therefore, I think those responsible understand that I really want to play, otherwise I will have to think about my future.”

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal and Chelsea were believed to be the English clubs interested in the 32-year-old. He’s made 208 appearances for Bayern since signing from Genoa in 2011. When he joined, he was a back-up to recently-retired right-back Philip Lahm, and is now back-up to young German Joshua Kimmich.

That he suggests he isn’t too bothered about being a starter elsewhere, in my opinion, and is content to stay in Germany, no matter his desire to play. Rafinha has lived in Germany for 12 years and perhaps didn’t fancy a move to England or Spain.

Arsenal are short of options at right back, with Hector Bellerin being the only senior option. Mathieu Debuchy is still at the club, but has as much chance of playing for the first-team as the fans do by this point.

An experienced campaigner such as Rafinha would have been a decent option, I feel, but between Arsenal’s bench and Bayern’s, it seems the Brazilian would rather stay at home.
