Arsenal are reportedly still confident that Mesut Ozil will sign a new deal with the club soon.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are ‘incredibly confident’ that Ozil will put pen to paper on a new deal ‘soon’.

The 28-year-old now has less than a year left on his current contract after signing for the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013 and while it had previously been reported that the playmaker was staying in north London, everything’s been a bit quiet on that front for a while.

In fact, the BBC’s David Ornstein claims that Arsenal and Ozil’s people haven’t held contract negotiations since March.

Although Ozil hasn’t been heavily linked with any other clubs, unlike Alexis Sanchez, given Arsenal’s current form, fans have been growing increasingly anxious that the German international might actually be off after all, despite him insisting that he wants to stay during pre-season.

Whether Ozil will actually stay at Arsenal remains to be seen but there are presumably agreements and reassurances behind the scenes that need to be made.

While the midfielder has struggled along with the rest of the Gunners in the Premier League this season, for his country, Ozil has been as brilliant as ever, scoring twice and assisting once during Germany’s recent 2018 World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Norway.
