Arsenal face competition from Napoli for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, according to latest reports.

The 23-year-old is out of favour at the Nou Camp and could be on the move before too long if his situation doesn’t improve. According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are monitoring Suarez, but will face competition from Napoli.

Suarez is an attacking-midfielder who returned to Barcelona last summer after impressing on loan at Sevilla and Villarreal. He initially came through the Celta Vigo academy, before joining Manchester City at a young age.

He spent two years at City, making the odd appearance in cup games, before returning with Spain with Barcelona’s second team. He made 36 appearances for Barcelona last season, but was mostly a rotation option and lacked the consistency to really challenge for a first-team spot.

Arsenal were linked with Suarez during the summer but no bid ever materialised. He’s more of an attacking player and perhaps isn’t the sort of midfielder Arsenal should be looking at, given their current midfield options, I feel.

Until Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere are back in the Arsenal side, the Gunners will be void of real creativity. Granit Xhaka is playing his part, while Mesut Ozil impressed against Bournemouth, but Arsenal should consider strengthening in this position in January.
