Former Bristol Rovers striker, Jamie Cureton, has taken up a coaching role at Arsenal.

Cureton, who’s also played for the likes of QPR, Norwich and Reading during his 24-year playing career, joins Arsenal’s coaching staff and will be helping the Gunners’ u16’s and under 15’s sides.

“I’m taking my badges at the moment,” revealed Cureton, via the Bristol Post.

“I was approached in the summer by Arsenal and went down for meetings and it’s gone on from there really.”

The 42-year-old is currently still playing for Southern League Premier Division, Farnborough, and will do for at least another season but is now looking to move away from playing and this is the first step.

“I’m starting out at Arsenal as a part time assistant for the under 16’s and helping with the 15’s as well,” he explained.

“So I’ll be working Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and then game days on a Saturday when I can.”

The striker has scored 156 goals during his impressive career, which has seen him play for almost 20 clubs since he started at Norwich in 1993.

Cureton scored 72 goals in 174 matches for Bristol Rovers between 1996 and 2000, and was a real fan favourite while there.

It’s interesting to see more additions being made to the coaching staff at Arsenal, even if it will be at the academy, especially since Cureton is still a practicing player.

He doesn’t plan on handing up his boots just but he, Arsenal and Farnborough have a plan in place to ensure that he can get introduced on a part-time basis.

According to the Bristol Post, he’s an experienced player who will do well for Arsenal’s academy. It’s great to have him on board.
