Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has reportedly picked up an ankle injury that could rule him out of facing Bournemouth on Saturday.

According to Bio Bio Chile, the 28-year-old picked up the injury on international duty with the Chilean national team and is now a doubt for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, let alone Saturday’s meeting with the Cherries.

Alexis has hardly featured for Arsenal this season, making just one Premier League appearance against Liverpool, which the Gunners lost 4-0 at Anfield. The former Barcelona man came close to a move to Manchester City on transfer deadline day before Arsene Wenger blocked the deal due to time constraints.

It’s rare to see the South American forward sidelined with injury given he appeared in all 38 of last season’s Premier League games, while featuring in post-season international tournaments in each of the last four summers.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Alexis Sanchez will still be fully committed to the club despite being forced to run down his final 12 months at the club against his wishes, but supporters won’t be happy to see him picking up another injury so soon after recovering from his last.

Given the London club currently sit 16th in the Premier League with three points from as many games, Arsenal need Alexis on the pitch not on the treatment table.
