Arsène Wenger claims that despite the transfer saga surrounding Alexis Sanchez throughout the summer window, and his near move on deadline day, Alexis is still well-loved by everyone at the club.
Wenger was speaking to the press ahead of the Gunners’ game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. When he was inevitably asked about the Chilean, Arsène responded (via Daily Star): “We love Alexis. He is a special character and we all love him.
“I think he is well-loved and he’s accepted – and that he’s happy here at Arsenal.”
Clearly Alexis must have had doubts about staying at Arsenal over the summer if he really wanted a move to Manchester City. However living in London as the star player in your team with the adoration of the fans and two cup final goals doesn’t sound like the hardest life for the 28-year-old.
Those adoring fans did start to turn a bit during August, especially after Alexis’ performance against Liverpool, and there were a few jeers as the forward came on against Bournemouth last week.
But, after his world class strike against Köln (where the response was much more positive), Alexis seems to be back in the fans’ good books, for now.
Arsenal will need the player who got 30 goals and 19 assists last season to be at his best this campaign.
