Granit Xhaka has told the club website that he wants to push on and improve in the coming season, as well as helping others around him to succeed.

The Swiss midfielder received mixed reviews at times during his first season with Arsenal, but started to win people over towards the end, and has continued to do so at the start of the current campaign.

Xhaka was mostly noted by the media for his two red cards in the first half of the year, and he says that this was an adjustment period, telling Arsenal player: “I play in an aggressive style and I think I am suited to football in England. I think every player needs time to adjust to a new league, a new country and new team-mates.

“At the back end of last season I already felt good and I am feeling more comfortable now and want to help the team as much as I can this season as well.”

In the big matches towards the end of last season against Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, Xhaka put in good performances to help the team to three wins, picking up the FA Cup as a result. At the start of the current campaign he did the same again, picking up the man-of-the-match award for his Community Shield performance against Chelsea.

After influencing the Premier League opener against Leicester with two assists, Thierry Henry said that Granit’s passing is so good that he could perhaps be doing even more with it, and playing directly to new signing Lacazette. To this, Xhaka responded: “It’s an honour for someone like Thierry to say something like that about me and to give me that compliment.

“Of course for me it’s an aim to get Laca in the game just as it is with all of those players in front of me and hopefully in the next few weeks that will go better and I can show that.”

If Xhaka can take Thierry’s advice then it’ll add a new dimension to the Gunners’ attacks. Variety is always a helpful feature of an attacking setup, so hopefully we’ll see more of this in the coming weeks.
