In Group A, the favourites Germany and Spain comfortably won their respective openers and look like they will qualify for the semi-finals and the U20 World Cup as well.

Northern Ireland were outclassed by the better side in the end and could have no arguments with the outcome. Spain showcased brilliant moves and ripped the hosts apart to pick up all three points.

Scotland 0-3 Germany
Germany beat Scotland comfortably, with three FA WSL players ending up on the losing side – Flaherty from Liverpool, Dalgliesh from Durham and Hanson from Doncaster. The Germany v Spain game will be an interesting test.
Italy 1-2 England
In Group B, England took care of Italy with a brace from former Arsenal Women midfielder Georgia Allen. Taylor Hinds came on as substitute, while former players Anna Patten, Chloe Kelly and Georgia Allen started the game. Lotte Wubben-Moy was an unused substitute.

France 0-2 Netherlands
The Netherlands hot on the heels of their senior Euro triumph beat a France side that does not seem to have enough quality to defend their title.
The holders are missing their main striker and are struggling to get goals, as shown by the result.
