Juventus’ CEO has responded to speculation about a move for Jack Wilshere by confirming that they are looking for a midfielder.

CEO Giuseppe Marotta has been speaking to the Italian media and was asked by Rai Sport via Inside Futbol whether the club planned to bring in an important midfielder, to which he responded “Yes, yes.”

Juventus have been linked with Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere in recent weeks, as well as Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, and believed to be in need of a midfielder.

Wilshere hasn’t yet played a match for Arsenal since returning from his loan spell at Bournemouth last season, although tonight’s U23 match against Derby will provide him with his first opportunity for playing time.

When it comes to Jack’s career ambitions and the club’s plans on whether or not to keep him, nothing has been made particularly clear publicly. Wilshere hasn’t been very vocal on what he’s going to do next, despite only having a year left on his Arsenal contract.

Arsenal are a bit short on midfield options at the moment, with Aaron Ramsey recovering from a knock, while Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin out injured long-term. Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are both fit but there’s little other cover.

If Arsenal let Wilshere go, I think it’s a pretty sure sign that the club plans to bring in a replacement, but we’ll await to see what happens with the Juventus links.
